Jinseok Heo, Consultant at Advisor Group
Q. Could you introduce what each team at the Advisor Group does?
Hello! The Advisor Group provides comprehensive funding consulting tailored to the business stages of early-stage startups, from prototype development to scaling up and exit strategies such as M&A. The Advisor Group is composed of three teams: the Business Planning Team, the IR Team, and the M&A Team.
Q. Are there any special working methods unique to the Advisor Group?
Yes, we have three distinctive approaches:
1️⃣Systematic Annual Roadmap: After our initial meeting with a company, we review its basic requirements and then plan an annual roadmap. Instead of proceeding with a makeshift approach, we use our unique method of creating an ‘annual roadmap’ to ensure systematic work aligned with the company’s lifecycle, helping secure funding. This structured approach often helps build trust with the CEOs we work with.
2️⃣ Monthly Meetings: We conduct either in-person or virtual meetings once a month. This allows us to address the needs and concerns of company representatives and adapt our consulting based on their current situations.
3️⃣Close Communication: The combination of our annual roadmap planning and monthly meetings ensures tight-knit communication, which is crucial for effective consulting and support.
Q. Among the many companies you've supported, is there a particular success story that stands out?
Rather than a success story, there’s a case that particularly stands out in my memory. There was an aspiring entrepreneur who was planning to start a metalworking shop using his severance pay. Unfortunately, such businesses have very limited access to government funding, which typically supports ventures with innovative products that have potential for international expansion. The lack of an innovative product was a major issue.
So, we worked together to brainstorm and created an innovative product—a motorized cart. With this idea, we managed to secure about 100 million won in funding to develop a prototype, file for a patent, and set up a website for commercialization. The entire process, from ideation to business launch, has been a memorable journey for me.
Q. I’ve heard that the Advisor Group works on a seasonal basis. Could you explain this a bit more?
Yes, our workload often peaks during specific seasons, so we need to stay focused to avoid delays. We make sure to concentrate fully on work during these busy periods. However, when things are less hectic, we take the opportunity to unwind, whether it’s going on trips, attending workshops, or even having workations. It’s a balance of working hard and enjoying our downtime.

Q. Can you explain what makes the Advisor Group stand out?
Our Advisor Group supports companies in securing funding, increasing their survival rates, and advancing to the next stage. Clients often express their gratitude and appreciation, saying things like “It was really helpful” and “I’m truly thankful.” Despite the challenges, the process brings great satisfaction and a sense of achievement. We also benefit from the broad experience and learning opportunities that come from consulting with representatives from various industries. Additionally, during the seasons when government support programs are concentrated, we focus on achieving results, which is part of our collective growth goal.

Q. The Business Planning Team is known for being one of the most stabilized teams at Alpha Brothers. Can you explain the reasons for this stability, the team’s development process, and future plans?
The Business Planning Team has achieved stability through years of experience and continuous improvement of our business model. Initially, we started with targeted consulting but later evolved our model to annual contracts and subscription-based services. Moving forward, we plan to expand the team size and enhance our processes to support more companies, including recruiting new staff and refining our procedures.
Q. If you were hiring new team members, what qualities or experiences would you look for?
Experienced candidates would be favored for hiring. Given that the work in the Business Planning Team is complex, we are looking for individuals with strong enthusiasm and commitment. Additionally, since client communication is crucial, we would prefer candidates with a service-oriented mindset.
Service-oriented mindset, enthusiasm, and preferably experience! We encourage many applicants to join the Business Planning Team! As funding is crucial for companies, the Advisor Group provides comprehensive consulting on this essential aspect. Thank you, Consultant Heo Jin-seok, for taking the time to share this information with us.
